Highlighter Heaven

The 80s are back, big time. Brace yourself for highlighter hues coming to a retailer near you. We must admit that we assumed the neon days from the 80s and 90s were a thing of the past, but we were evidently mistaken! Judging by the looks on the runway at NYFW, it appears as though most designers have found a way to incorporate some neon fluorescent accents into their collections with pops of color on suits, accessories, gowns, pants, you name it! If you are the type to dread the winter greys, then you’ll be happy to reintroduce the neon trend to brighten your wardrobe.

FJALLRAVEN Kanken Backpack

We saw hints of neon back in the spring when Blake Lively stepped out from head to toe in a neon power suit from Versace. So in hindsight, we should have known that for fall 2018 the trend would have expanded to greater heights. The most colorful collection on the runway was by designer, Prabal Gurung. With every catwalk, we saw punchy pinks, highlighter yellows and vivid greens throughout the collections. Brandon Maxwell also showcased strikingly bright and colorful pieces. Our favorite look was an elegant sleeved dress coupled with red boots, making a serious statement!

How to Wear the Neon Trend

If you are looking for a sure-fire way to stand out from the crowd, look no further. The solution is to purchase some neon day-glo and go! Now for those who are more reluctant to accept this trend and reintroduce fluorescent brights into your closets, we get it! The trick to pulling off neon without feeling like you’re at a rave can be tricky but the key is to opt for selective vibrant doses rather than full ensembles. This would mean going for classic, clean looks, like an elegant neutral sweater paired with a bright skirt, or just pops of color in your accessories to keep your look minimalistic but still fun.

Did She Really Get Pinned?

This season brooches are back and it makes me so nostalgic for my Grandmother. I pinned three different styles to this blazer and I love the lapel party that it created.

Yes, we are in 2019, but we are still loving the nostalgia of 90s chokers, with a metal version twist!
