Spotted: Leopard Print
Arguably, the fiercest pattern to ever exist is the leopard print and it’s making a huge style comeback. But really, did it ever go anywhere? In its many phases and eras, leopard print has always been like that committed partner that never went away. To combine this trend, make it into your accessory closet with a giant leopard print bag!
It’s the one animal print that keeps popping up again and again, and with good reason! You put the print on and you suddenly feel like the chicest cat in the city. Designers have been using the jungle cat as their latest inspo for runway looks and I’m all over it! All over this year’s look is the mixing and matching of all animal prints, and you can’t go wrong with even going just slightly overboard with it. Burberry, Gucci and R13 did it this season and so can you!
This season also foresaw gigantic enormous, and truly over-the-top bags, and Victoria Beckham, Marni and Isabel Marant showed us just what that means on the runway. I took that gigantic bag trend and added leopard print to it – just what this season was looking for! The bigger the bag, the better!
Even though the leopard print pattern is seemingly everywhere, it’s still pretty intimidating to try and tackle. It’s very much a trend that people either love or hate, and I can get why. There’s a fine line between pulling it off seamlessly and, well, wanting to pull it off ASAP. Nonetheless, I think the trend definitely something to try.
How To Style Leopard
If you’re shying away from the idea of dressing in spots, that’s totally okay! Start small and work your way up. You can try a leopard bootie, which looks so good with denim, or even a clutch for the pop of the pattern. If even those make you feel iffy, a leopard print umbrella is both practical and a totally subtle way to get in on the trend!
Try styling yourself in leopard on top, or on bottom, instead of going head-to-toe jungle cat. Some fashionistas say that leopard print is basically a neutral, but it might take a bit for you to feel the same way! Pair a sheer leopard blouse with a black pant, or a fierce leopard skirt with a black turtleneck. I personally love rocking the leopard accessories, I stick with plain black top and bottom and rock some leopard print flats, bag, belt, and hair accessory to match!
Staying away from skintight pieces will help ensure that you look like you’re wearing the print, instead of the other way around. Plus adding feminine details (think ruffles or piping) makes sure your choice says clothes and not costume.
Seeing as colder months have you covering up your outfit choices anyway, why not have your coat be the main piece? A leopard print coat is a bold choice but it’s one that we can so get behind!
