Jessica Clarke Higgins is certainly the most grounded, well-established, 26 year olds we know. She is a licensed Esthetician and certified acne specialist living in Denver, Colorado. Her mantra is "feel good in just your skin." We couldn't agree more! Her career is centered around offering specialized treatment plans for each of her clients. She even has a cheat sheet on her website, Just Skin Den, which educates her clients on the terminology and products she uses. She is a results driven and focused Esthetician, who wants to give you the results you want. She is your skin cheerleader! In 2018, her entire world changed when she met her now husband Ben Higgins (yes, that Ben Higgins from the Bachelor). She now has a huge social media presence, which she uses to share her life and educate people about skincare. She hopes what she shares brings a smile and the occasional giggle along the way!

Melissa: What is your particular morning routine and particular nighttime routine?

Jessica:  In the morning, I wake up, drink athletic greens, have coffee and move in someway (walk, run or a workout class) then I get ready for work and head over to my studio Just Skin Den. I wash my face using iS Clinical Super Serum, Clearstem Bounceback and then two types of sunscreen. I layer on the sunscreen and use one that is non-tinted and the other has tint.  After work, I come home and have dinner with my husband and we always walk our dog, Waylan, yes I am a boy dog mom. When we get home I go up and wash my face or take a shower. I double cleanse with iS Clinical warming honey cleanser then whatever cleanser I have in front of me. I follow with iS Clinical Brightening Complex and Clearstem Bounceback for a second time during my nighttime skincare routine. Lately, I have been loving iS Clinical Youth Creme or Clearstem Hydraberry Moisture mask. Finally, Ben and I watch a tv show and I”ll read before I go to bed. That’s my typical routine.

Melissa: What are your go to brands that are particular to you? Tell us your go-to denim, white t-shirt, bra or underwear, shoes, PJ’s or brand you splurge or invest in?

Jessica: For clothing, I I love Spiritual Gangster, Vitality, and Skims. I am a big loungewear person and basically live in it! The one thing I will splurge on is bags. I like to find the hidden gems on resale sites like Tradesly or Rebag!

Melissa: What is your particular vice?
Jessica: I would say coffee and chocolate! Nothing better than these two, IMO!
Melissa: What is your particular travel destination?
Jessica: I am dying to go back to Italy.
Melissa: What is your particular go-to meal to cook?
Jessica: I keep it simple and cook salmon and veggies but lately I haven’t been able to cook much.
Melissa: What particular movie you love to rewatch?
Jessica: That’s an easy one, Pretty Woman!
Melissa: What particular thing that makes you feel scared, anxious, happy, excited or cry?
Jessica: I get anxious about being away from home for too long. I’m a big routine girl.

Don't worry so much. Let go of control!

Melissa: What particular business advice you would give someone who is just getting started in their career?
Jessica: For me the most important thing was finding people with more experience than myself surround yourself with them. These days people are so focused on the hustle culture, I say don’t give into the hustle culture!  Finally, I would say prioritize your mental health as there is no amount of money to not focus on the most important thing to your overall health and wellness.
Melissa: Anything you’re particularly obsessed with at the moment?
Jessica: Right now, I am trying to find a workout routine and lifestyle that makes me feel balanced.
Melissa: Particular thing you wish you made more time for or prioritize?
Jessica: I wish I made more time for face-timing important people to me who live far away.

"There isn't much in life you can do that can't be undone" from My Dad

Melissa: What was a particular turning point in your life?
Jessica: For me it was meeting my husband. He makes me fully myself and I feel so confident in that feeling.
Melissa: What particular thing that your younger self wouldn’t believe that you’ve done now?
Jessica: I cannot believe that I do this almost everyday! I would tell myself, can you believe I talk to the camera on my phone and have thousands of people see it! Who knew?!
Melissa: What particular person, moment or event that inspired you to start your company?
Jessica: Having acne myself all of high school and college. It took me a long time to figure out that changes in my lifestyle and products would ultimately help me with my skin issues. I finally realized that the prescriptions were just a bandaid to my skin issues and I needed to make other changes to get things under control. My goal, is to have everyone feel empowered the same way I feel empowered about their skin journey.
Melissa: What particular misconception people have about you or what you do?
Jessica: Many times people think my skin studio, Just Skin Den is in my house or that it’s a wellness space, haha!
Melissa: Tell us when you had a particularly challenging time in your life that you were able to grow and learn from?
Jessica: I had an eating disorder in high school and college. Finally, admitting that I had a problem and getting the help that I needed was the first step. This has helped made me grow into who I am and see that there are things in life not worth stressing about which is something I try to focus on each day.
