Carolina Kleinman

Designer & Founder of Lifestyle Brand Carolina K

Textiles and design have always been a part of Carolina Kleinman's life. After growing up in a family of South American designers, she traveled the world with a family of her own, settling in the magical town of Tepoztlan, Mexico. In 2005, she founded her eponymous lifestyle brand Carolina K.

Carolina partners with artisans across Mexico, Peru and India to bring her embroidered creations to life, and loves the community she's built in Miami, where she opened her first design studio and store. She's lucky to have created a brand that unites her passions of travel and design, and is passionate about preserving and bringing attention to Latin American design tradition.

More from Carolina:

You’ve spoken a lot about how your travels with family inspired you to start your brand, Carolina K. What were the specific moments that made you realize this was the right path for you?
I’ve been immersed within the fashion industry since I was a young girl. My Latinx heritage and my family’s history in working in textiles and design led me to create my own pieces. After traveling the world and being immersed in music, art, different cultures and nature, I decided to create my own brand in 2005. It has always been my mission to create impeccably made pieces while supporting artisans around the globe to preserve their ancestral techniques and rich cultures.

This year, you opened your Flagship store in Miami. Congrats! How does the experience of shopping and interacting with your product in person change the way you think about merchandising and design?
My collections always tell a story and are inspired by the nature, music, art and architecture of the different places and communities I’ve immersed myself in. With my Design District store, I allow visitors to enter my universe and experience the cultures that have inspired me firsthand. In addition to my collections, the store features  pieces made by global artisans that I’ve personally connected with throughout the history of my brand and my world travels and I’m excited to provide a stage to highlight their unique crafts.

What trends in travel, interiors, and art do you expect we’ll see make their way into the fashion space over the next few years?
Anything that is made by human hands and that is long-lasting.

Who are a few women entrepreneurs you admire or whose careers you follow?
Dr. Jane Goodall and Vandana Shiva

Can you share three products from your line which you’re most excited about right now?
