Nazanin Rose Matin

We discovered Nazanin Rose Matin this summer while we were grounded and sticking close to home. However, upon laying eyes on her dreamy collection of caftans and resort wear, we were instantly exported to more exotic locales. Her collection of diaphanous dresses, pants, scarves, turbans, and swim are laden with geometric prints that are simultaneously bohemian yet deeply glamorous. She designs so that you can drift from beach to bungalow with ease...sunkissed and serene.

MELISSA: Things are a little different right now, we’re in an unprecedented time. How have you shifted as a business and as an individual to accommodate this new normal?
NAZANIN:
I’ve always been a strong believer in quality over quantity. But now more than ever, I think it’s become apparent to all of us that we don’t need to over-consume. Being at home has helped me streamline the way I consume products and where I place my purchasing power.
We have to be aware of our impact on the environment and this is really making headway in the industry at the moment. I want to make women feel confident, comfortable and good about themselves and invest in pieces that can be worn season after season.

MELISSA: Can you tell us about your brand? Why resort wear?
NAZANIN:
I’ve always liked the fact that resort wear intimately relates to the fond memories of being on holiday. The pieces are timeless and versatile and can be worn from day to night. Low-key glamour that instantly elevates your look. Focusing on luxury fabrics, delicate and colourful prints with an effortless carefree yet sophisticated aesthetic.
MELISSA:
We love how much colour and pattern you use in your designs. What is your process when it comes to choosing colour palettes for your designs?
NAZANIN:
It’s very instinctual. I’ve always been drawn to colour and pattern. Nature has a great colour palette as a source of inspiration, from the burnt orange sunsets to the azure blues of the ocean.

MELISSA: If you are packing your suitcase for a weekend getaway, what are the must have pieces that you take with?
NAZANIN:
Our latest cotton/silk cabana dress, as it’s super light and can been worn over a bikini at the beach or in the evening over a silk slip dress. It transitions beautifully from the beach to sunset cocktails.
MELISSA:
What inspires your relaxed, bohemian designs?
NAZANIN:
I am inspired by everyday life—art, architecture, movies, old magazines, books, nature and of course flea markets—they’re a great source of inspiration. I love travelling and discovering different cultures and places.
